Most schools have somewhat of a dress code policy whether it be very strict or not too serious. The question is, when is it okay to break the rules? When schools have spirit weeks or events to dress up for, is it okay to bend the dress code a bit? It always comes up and students are left wondering "is this okay to wear?". I think that during spirit weeks, kids should be allowed to dress more freely than what they are usually restricted to wear. It's fun to paint you're face, wear hats, or even see some boys wearing girl shorts. Minor dress codes are being broken but it's all in good fun. Do you think dress codes should be as strict or followed to the dime during spirit weeks or other big events at school?

Banning of Body Art
As most people know, tattoos and visible body piercings are banded in the workplace. In some places, this rule has spilled over into schools. Parents or schools often assume the worst for the students. Kids use tattoos and piercings as a way to express themsel
v
es and show their artistic side. Is the body art too distracting in schools? We have to keep in mind that a student with body art could be a well-rounded kid and an honor-student, or pretty much any type you could think of. On the other hand, it is possible that children who are already inclined toward bad behavior may also desire to be pierced and/or tattooed, kids who are already in a gang or trying to get into one will get tattooed or pierced to show support, and children with a predisposition to rebel might choose to act on that desire by getting tattooed or pierced. Does getting tattooed or pierced automatically mean a teen is involved in drinking, smoking, drugs, sex, gangs, animal sacrifice or conspiring with extra-terrestrial aliens? Should schools be concerned or should they allow the students to be who they are? After all, it is THEIR body.
Dress Restrictions
In most schools, there is a mandatory dress code that students must follow. Some of these rules regard dressing seductively. It is said to be a distraction when students show to much skin and show off their bodies so rules are enforced such as, no mid-drifts, no ripped jeans, shorts longer than your fingertips, etc. Also, clothing with references to drugs, alcohol, and violence are also restricted. Some schools go crazy with the dress codes, and some lack any type of restrictions. Do you think that schools should be strict about dress codes, or lay off a little? Why?

School Uniforms
There has been an ongoing controversy about school uniforms in many school districts. Are school uniforms good or bad? With uniforms, students would not have to worry about picking out there outfit or getting judged on their clothing by their peers. They promote equality amongst the students on the campus. On the other hand, uniforms hinder the creativity and individuality of kids. Many students express themselves through their clothing and by enforcing uniforms, they would no longer be able to do so. Should school uniforms be enforced? What are some more pros/cons of uniforms in school districts?
